Choosing Your Next Verizon SmartPhone

If you are a Verizon customer and in the market for the next wave of smartphones, you may want to check out this infographic from androidguys comparing your likely 3 best options.

In short, I really don’t believe there’s a wrong direction to go if you’re in need of a smartphone now.  Personally, I’m waiting for the wave after that where all the dual-core handsets come out to play.  With that said, here’s my top list:

  1. HTC Thunderbolt
  2. Motorola Droid Bionic
  3. Apple iPhone 4

For the HTC Thunderbolt, I’m just an HTC fan.  Their UI, widgets, dialer and overall experience is the best I’ve found for Android.  In addition, I like the idea of an integrated FM Radio, included 32GB microSD card (if true) and insane battery life.  I’m also a fan of the shorter and wider portrait display in comparison to Motorola’s tall and skinny approach.

The Motorola Droid Bionic is quite interesting, but it’s still Motorola.  To me, this means a lacker-luster and uninspired UI with less than user friendly apps (terrible dialer) and overall average user experience (though I do like resizeable widgets).  With that said, I like the idea of an HDMI output.  But that’s far from enough to make up for my prior Motorola experiences.

For the iPhone, I’ve played Apple’s little mobile game and am likely to never go back.  I can’t stand someone telling me what I can and can not do or view (I’m infinitely pissed about having no Flash Player).  I also like the options avaiable from the wide array of Android handsets out there.  It allows me to get almost exactly what I want.  With that said, I miss the AppStore’s large and high quality market.  Their music and other media apps and syncing is also far superior to Android (as of now).  Honestly, if I was not a developer, I would really struggle with whether to go Android or Apple.

That’s enough rambling for now.  Here’s that infographic again (just in case you missed it).
